Now that you've seen it, what did you think? The new Pixar movie is here! Now playing in theaters everywhere is the 16th feature film from Pixar Animation Studios (the second this year following Inside Out) titled The Good Dinosaur. Directed by Peter Sohn, the film is set in an alternate timeline where the dinosaurs evolved into intelligent species, and one of them named Arlo ends up on an adventure with a tiny human friend. Arlo is voiced by Raymond Ochoa. Along the way he meets a family of T-Rexes - voiced by A.J. Buckley, Anna Paquin and Sam Elliott. So how is Pixar's latest? Did it pull at your heart strings? Make you laugh? Once you've seen it, post a comment with your thoughts on Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.

To fuel the fire, I really enjoyed The Good Dinosaur. It's not my instant favorite but I think it's a charming coming-of-age story mashed up with a western. I'm not overly critical of it and I actually admire how bold it is as a movie. Basically, the only human being in it (for the most part) acts like a dog and nearly gets killed multiple times. On the other side, we're following a dinosaur named Arlo that actually seems more like us than the boy. Some of the best scenes in it don't have any dialogue, when the two communicate together without speaking. My friend described it best as a movie about a boy and his dog, and that's really what it is, but with some unique Pixar touches to it (showing how the dinosaurs and other creatures would've evolved).

At first I was reminded of A Bug's Life, the story of a young guy being thrust out into the wild and not being able to handle the real world. It starts out a bit like that, but then almost becomes a City Slickers spoof for a while as he roams the wilderness with the T-Rexes. By the end I was thinking of Wall-E, and how finally returns home a completely different person, but has learned that one of the most important parts of love is letting go. These may be themes explored many times before, but Pixar continues to make such charming, unique, emotional movies and I continue to enjoy them. The last thing to mention - the water animation in this movie is stunning, hard to take your eyes off of it. They still have some of the best animators in the biz.
